Mouse Paint: Lesson Plan

Theme:  Colors

ReadMouse Paint by Ellen Stohl Walsh

Craft:  Finger paint in a bag---Put finger paint in a gallon Ziploc bag,  Let out the air and seal up the bag.  Next tape the bag down to a table using painters tape.  Squish away!  A variation of this would be to tape the bag onto a window.  Tons of fun without the mess!  You can also try putting little objects to squish around in the bag with the paint.  Marbles, corks, little balled up pieces of paper, beans, be creative!

Supplies:
  • Book
  • Gallon Ziploc bag
  • Painters tape
  • Finger paint
Extension:
  • Put different combinations of paint in different bags to make different colors. For example, in one bag put yellow and red to make orange, in another bag put blue and red to make purple, and in yet another bag put blue and yellow to make green. Have your kids predict what color each bag will make.
  • Of course you can always finger paint the normal way.
  • Spread out butcher paper, newspaper, or just lots of computer paper on the floor (I'm going to do this in our garage to help with the mess) to make your canvas.  Put finger paint on the canvas then dance away on the paper!  As you dance through the paint you will create a masterpiece just like the mice from the story.
