Moo Baa La La La: Lesson Plan

Theme:  Farm

Read:  Moo Baa La La La! By Sandra Boynton

Activity: Farm Sensory Tub - Get a container.  Anything could work, plastic bin, empty box, whatever you can find.  Make sure the tub doesn't have any holes in it.  Fill your tub with your choice of sensory material.  I suggest a few that go with the farm theme down below in the supply list.  Hide your farm puzzle pieces, farm figures, or pictures in the sensory bin.  As your child pulls each piece out say the name of the animal and their sound.  Or if your child is old enough have them say the animal name and tell you the animal sound.  I always give my daughter a funnel and different containers and scoops to play with while doing a sensory tub.  Empty Tupperware, measuring spoons, kid cups, etc. are all good options.

Supplies:
  • Book
  • container
  • A farm puzzle OR farm figurines OR photos or clipart pictures of farm animals (comment on this post if you would like a copy of mine!)
  • your choice of sensory materials
    • hay
    • unpopped popcorn
    • beans
Extension:
  • Research with your child what type of food different farm animals eat.Get multiple containers. Fill each one with a different type of farm animal food.    Match each picture of an animal with their food.
  • Take a field trip to a local petting farm to see the animals in person.  Take photos of your child with the animals and make a book out of the photos.  Or if you are feeling really adventurous, let them take the photos!
  • Make musical instruments with the different sensory materials you used.  Fill a dry and empty soda or water bottle with beans, hot glue and tape the lid on, then shake away.  Homemade maraca!
